PCB Manufacturing Process
At the Garner Osborne factory, every stage of the PCB Manufacturing Process is measured for quality and efficiency. Here we’ve detailed the departments and machinery that are key to creating your circuit board.
Front End Engineering
All Gerber files will be design rule checked and manufacturing rule checked, to ensure that any potential problems are dealt with before a works order goes in manufacturing.
The software we use is front-line-Genesis, which is the preferred option of all top P.C.B. manufacturers. We have 5 CAM stations to ensure we have ample capacity for new products.
All of the required tooling is output from this software, including N.C. data, A.O.I. data, test data and plot files, which are sent to our Silver Writer to Laser plot the photo tools.
Drill Shop
Our Drilling Department has 20 drilling spindles and 8 profiling spindles. All are operated by side Sibe Meyer software controllers, which gives us flexibility. The machine range from 6 spindles to 2 spindle machines which is ample capacity for both higher number of jobs and medium volume jobs.
Wet Shop
Our Wet Shop is where the P.C.B. starts to take on it's final form. Within this department we have an 8 cell copper plating line which has pulse engine and side to side rectification. We have a horizontal direct metallization line which incorporates the shadown system, a Wise etch system to remove excess copper.
Dry Film
The Dry Film Department employs 2 Western Magnum Laminators to apply the dry film which is printed with Cirgraphics vacuum frames. The photo tools are punched via a 50x magnification camera to achieve maximum registration accuracy when boards are printed.
Silk Screen
In the Silk Screen Department, we have a spray coater and 4 manual benches for all ink application and 2 refrigerated Colight exposure machine to print the image of the photo tools on to the light sensitive film.
Finishes
We have a number of finishes that are in house including Leaded HASL, Lead Free HASL, Electroless Nickel, Immersion Gold, Silver, OSP and Electrolytic tin, though all available finished can be subcontracted as per customer's specification.
Test Department
In test we have 2 EMMA Flying Probe Machine's to ensure all products is tested prior to despatch. And we also have an A.O.I. for inner layers and more complex copper layer to help improve yield rates and reduce scrappage of products.
Final Inspection
Finally, we enter the last stage of the PCB Manufacturing Process. Now, each product is 100% inspected with an inspection pack that is generated at the time the job is engineered. Added to this, we have 4 inspectors carrying out Final and Intermediate Inspection. For Final Inspection, we use a Lynx Magnification System capable of up to 80 times magnification.
